NCBG DESCRIPTIVES
INTRO:Erectperennial of rocky, dry to dry-moist forests and woodlands over mafic or calcareous rock, such as diabase, amphibolite, calcareous siltstone, calcareous shale or limestone. STEMS: Stems slender, sparingly branched, dull green to reddish brown with whitish coating, smooth. LEAVES: Leaves alternate, petioles with sheathing bases, 1-2 times ternately divided, the ultimate leaflets oval to oblong and about 1 in. long and smooth. INFLORESCENCE: FLOWERS: Flowers in composite umbels 4-7 in. wide at ends of some branches, the 12-15 stalked umbellets widely spaced and containing about 12 flowers. Flowers yellow, tiny (less than 1/4 in. wide), with 5 petals. FRUITS:Fruit a joined pair of oval,ridged seeds with one flattened side (pentagonal in cross-section). COMMENTS: Has a light, celery-like odor. The fruits of the very similar T. montana have prominent wings. HEIGHT: 1-3 ft. DURATION:
