NCBG DESCRIPTIVES

INTRO: Erect or ascending annual of island-end flats, marsh edges and brackish flats.
STEMS: Stems profusely branched, woody at the base, green or red and smooth.
LEAVES: Leaves alternate, sessile, linear and sharp-pointed, 1/8-2 in. long, succulent, green or red and smooth.
INFLORESCENCE:
FLOWERS: Flowers in small clusters in the axils of a leafy spike to 5 in. long; green, red, pink or yellow; tiny; lacking petals but with 5 red or green, keeled sepals.
FRUITS: Fruit an achene.
COMMENTS:
HEIGHT: 6–36 in.
