NCBG DESCRIPTIVES
INTRO:Prostrate,herbaceousperennialvine of sandhills and other relatively dry sandy areas. STEMS: Stems slender, spreading across ground. LEAVES: Leaves alternate, short-petiolate to sessile,linear to narrowly elliptic, to 2 in. long, covered with short and close-pressed hairs. INFLORESCENCE: FLOWERS: Flowers solitary on erect, slender stalks from leaf axils; white; 3/4 in. wide; funnel-shaped with 5 corolla lobes that are hairy on the outer surface and 5 also hairy, pale green much shorter calyx lobes. 2 short, dark green bracts subtend the calyx. FRUITS: COMMENTS: Flowers open in morning; remain open for 1 day. HEIGHT: 1-4 ft. long DURATION:

PHENOLOGY: Jun-Aug.
HABITAT: Sandhills and other relatively dry sandy areas.
COMMENTS: Overall, the most common and widespread taxon of the genus in our area, regularly encountered in its habitat. E. NC south to n. FL, and west to s. MS.
