GENUS INDEX

GENUS CODE: SCHOE6
GENUS SCIENTIFIC: Schoenoplectus
GENUS AUTHORITY: (Rchb.) Palla
GENUS COMMON: Bulrush
GENUS SUMMARY: A genus of about 50 species, herbs, cosmopolitan in distribution. Micromorphologic, anatomic, and molecular studies have confirmed earlier opinions based on morphology that Schoenoplectus is not closely related to Scirpus (Strong 1994, Smith 1995, Schuyler, pers. comm.). Most investigators now also favor the separation of Bolboschoenus from Schoenoplectus (Pignotti & Mariotti 2004).
