NCBG DESCRIPTIVES

INTRO: Spreading, mat-forming perennial of sandhills, other dry woodlands and road banks.
STEMS: Stems semi-woody and freely branched.
LEAVES: Leaves opposite or in clusters in the axils of opposite leaves, sessile, stiffly linear, to 1 in. long, evergreen with bristly margins.
INFLORESCENCE:
FLOWERS: Flowers in small clusters on erect-ascending stems; pink to lavender or white with a dark eye; 1 in. wide; consisting of 5 corolla lobes that flare abruptly outward from a narrow, hairless tube. 5 partially fused, hairy, narrowly lance-shaped sepals are shorter than the corolla tube.
FRUITS: Fruit a papery, nearly round capsule.
COMMENTS:

Plant Sale Text: Pineland phlox has flowers that typically range from shades of pink to white, occurring over a period of weeks. The flower colors vary from plant to plant, all of them attractive either singly or in a medley. This early-blooming native perennial is easy to grow and quite showy when it is planted in full sun. The needle-like leaves of this low-growing species are semi-evergreen. Its flowers are attractive to a variety of early-spring butterflies.
