INTRO: Erect perennial of nearly fresh, brackish, and saline marshes.
STEMS: Stems 4-angled, branched, smooth.
LEAVES: Leaves opposite, sessile, linear to lance-shaped, 1/2-1 1/2 in. long.
INFLORESCENCE:
FLOWERS: Flowers solitary in upper leaf axils; white to pale purple; 1/4 in. wide; consisting of a tubular calyx and 6 spreading, widely spaced, oblong-lance-shaped petals and 6 slender stamens and a style.
FRUITS: Fruit a 2-sectioned, many-seeded, cylindric capsule.
COMMENTS:
