INTRO:Erectperennial found in bogs, seepages, on stream banks and other wet places, often growing in Sphagnum. STEMS: Stems several from a single crown, sometimes reclining at the base, narrowly ribbed, much branched. LEAVES: Leaves opposite on lower half of stem and alternate above (sometimes all opposite), sessile, ascending-erect, narrowly elliptic, to 1 1/2 in. long, smooth. INFLORESCENCE: FLOWERS: Flowers on stalks from nodes on the widely ascending,ribbed branches; each flowerpale yellow, about 1/3 in. wide, consisting of 5 spreading,oval petals and 5 smaller sepals. FRUITS:Fruit a tiny, round, slightly flattened capsule. COMMENTS: HEIGHT: 1-4 ft. DURATION:
