Brown 1814 FAMILY COMMON: Stargrass Family FAMILY SUMMARY: A family of about 9 genera and ca. 155 species, uerous or rhizomatous perennial herbs, subcosmopolitan (though not well distributed in the northern hemisphere of the Old World, and especially diverse in South Africa). The recognition of Hypoxidaceae at the family level is supported by a variety of authors, on morphologic and molecular grounds (Kocyan et al. 2011; Judd 2000). PHENOLOGY:
HABITAT: Wet pine savannas.
COMMENTS: Apr (-later, especially in response to fire); May (-later, especially in response to fire). NC south to s. FL, west to e. TX, s. AR, and se. OK. The potential recognition of H. longii needs additional assessment as its lumping is presumptive; see Weakley, Ludwig, and Townsend (2013) for discussion.
