WEAKLEY FLORA

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Carex bromoides ssp. montana
COMMON NAME: Blue Ridge Brome Sedge
SYNONYMY: [= FNA, K, Tn; < C. bromoides - C, F, G, GW, M, RAB, S, W]
PHENOLOGY: Jun-Jul.
HABITAT: Mountain bogs in the Blue Ridge, seepages in the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
COMMENTS: Ssp. montana is known only from sw. VA, w. NC, and nw. SC. This taxon needs further study in order to better understand its habitats and distribution. Naczi (1999b) provided additional evidence for its recognition, in the form of different chromosome numbers (n=30-31 for ssp. montana and n= 32-34 for ssp. bromoides).
