NCBG DESCRIPTIVES
INTRO: An erectannual or biennial that, though native to temperate Eurasia, is now widespread in North America along roadsides and in dry disturbed areas and sandy fields. STEMS:Stem slender, simple to sparsely branched, with stiff, close-pressed hairs pointing in one direction. LEAVES: Leaves alternate,sessile,linear to lance-shaped, to 1 1/2 in. long, with a single prominent vein. INFLORESCENCE: FLOWERS: Flowers are nearly sessile in axils of upper leaves, white to bluish, about 1/4 in. long, funnel-shaped, 5 parted, the corolla scarcely longer than the hairy calyx. FRUITS:Fruit a pale-brown to gray, tiny nutlet. COMMENTS: HEIGHT: 6-20 in. DURATION:
