(2009) indicate that Bolboschoenus is in a clade with Fimbristylis, Abildgaardia, Bulbostylis, Fuirena, Eleocharis, and other genera not in our flora, and therefore not closely related to (or congeneric with) Schoenoplectus or Scirpus.
