This choice native shrub has fragrant flowers in late summer. It is attractive to butterflies. The cultivar “Fern Valley Late Sweet” is a selection that flowers in September. Its flowers have a spicy, intense sweetness that pleasantly permeates the air. Coastal Sweet-pepperbush is tolerant of partial shade and wet soils. Its glossy green foliage turns golden yellow in fall. Brown seed heads provide interest through the winter.
