Switchgrass is valued for its attractive fall color and interesting winter silhouette. This southeastern native grass is useful for providing cover, food, and nesting material for birds. Dallas Blues is a cultivar of Switchgrass selected for its upright habit and beautiful blue-colored foliage. In fall, this cultivar is topped with stunning purple-reddish seed head plumes. Switchgrass is easy to grow. This perennial is very tolerant of poor clay soils and droughty conditions once established. Given plenty of sunlight and average soil, it is essentially a year-round asset in the garden.
