INTRO:Erectperennial of pine savannas and bogs. STEMS: Stems vaguely 4-angled, branched above only. LEAVES: Leaves opposite,linear, 1-4 in. long; elliptic to spoon-shapedbasal leaves often present too. INFLORESCENCE: FLOWERS: Flowers 1-5 in a compact terminal cluster; pink; about 1 1/4 in. wide; consisting of usually 10 oblong-lance-shaped petals with oblique tips and yellow at the base (making a yellow ring in the flower center), 10 linear to lance-shaped sepals, and prominent yellow anthers and pistil. FRUITS:Fruit an ellipsoid to ovoid capsule. COMMENTS: HEIGHT: 6-20 in. DURATION:
